Summer Research Opportunity

Liberty Classical Academy is thrilled to be one of only a few select schools in the nation chosen to participate in the Seeds of Change Research program. Each summer, Upper School students have the unique opportunity to travel to Costa Rica to participate in the Tropical Field Research program. Students earn 3 college credits for their scientific work. They also have an opportunity to earn letters of recommendation for college entrance and scholarships from prestigious scientists.

Summer 2026 Trip Information

We would like to invite all Upper School students to attend the Seeds of Change tropical field research trip to Costa Rica this summer!

The 10-day trip will consist of hands-on research at a state-of-the-art facility and wonderful cultural excursions led by Mr. Struck and Mrs. Zweber.

Along with valuable scientific field research and language immersion, students will go on waterfall and night hikes, horseback riding on a volcano, ziplining through the jungle, take surfing lessons on the beach, and participate in sea turtle rescue.

  • June 2-11, 2026
  • $4,550 - all inclusive
  • Fundraising and scholarships available to all
Requirements:
  • Current U.S. passport
  • Attend 1 parent/student meeting (tentatively October 22nd - more info coming)
  • Attend 5 after school pre-trip lectures with Mr. Struck and Mrs. Zweber

Cost Information:

  • Total cost of trip is $4,550 (flights, transportation, lodging, meals, and excursions)
  • Optional payment plan Oct-June (monthly cost pending scholarship and fundraising)

Student Research

Students will carry out research in the field and at a new SOC Research multi-million dollar facility designed for high school students--the only one of its kind in the world!

Off-site Excursions

Students will also have the opportunity to take off-site excursions: hiking to waterfalls and thermal pools, horseback riding, taking a tour of a cocoa plantation with chocolate tasting, a night hike, working with sea turtle conservation, and having fun at the beach.

Student Presentation

Upon return, the Liberty community is invited to hear the students present their research findings and share about their experience.
