Performance
that Inspires.
On the stage of performance,
our students learn to create. They learn to become.
They learn to take risks. They learn to dream.
Get to Know:
Dr. Kimberly Kokx
Performing Arts Director
Nobody's more serious about joy.
When Dr. Kimberly Kokx directs a performance, it's hard not to feel her passion.
The classroom culture she creates is warm. It's energetic. Intense. And probably a little bit intimidating if you think the arts aren't for you.
Under Dr. Kokx's leadership, the theater program at Liberty Classical has drastically changed its tune. Difficult productions with challenging scripts (like Les Mis) have become the standard. The choreography and special effects required for performances like Wizard of Oz and Little Mermaid demand precision and commitment.
She makes it happen. And the students love her.
"Engage like your grade depends on it," she says. "Because it does."
For her students, she helps them fight against fear. She helps them identify with the characters they portray by identifying with emotions like fear, joy, hope, or despair. She helps them move past inhibitions and embody the roles they've been given. She helps them see that they were made with the desire and ability to be creative, strong, and expressive. She insists that they support each other as they take risks, as they make mistakes, get messy, and learn. And she makes theater for Liberty Classical students what it is to her: an expression of truth, goodness, and beauty.
