5th Grade Reenacts the Tabernacle of the Old Testament

5th graders gave their guests a tour of the Old Testament Tabernacle this September

An annual tradition for the 5th graders at Liberty Classical is to host an event called the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle was a portable sanctuary that God instructed Moses to build at Mount Sinai in the Old Testament. As the Israelites journeyed through the wilderness, the Tabernacle went with them and served as the dwelling place of God. While being a literal tent, the tabernacle also served as a symbol of God never leaving them in the wilderness.

"And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them." - Exodus 25:8

The Tabernacle was central to daily life. Animal sacrifices, burn offerings, ceremonies, and prayers revolved around the Tabernacle. The innermost chamber of the Tabernacle was called the Holy of Holies. This was God's throne room on earth and only the high priest could enter on the Day of Atonement. Teachers, parents, and students got to experience going through the Tabernacle, hearing from the 5th graders who they represented in the story and ask them questions. Students pointed out how because of Jesus' death and resurrection, we no longer need a high priest on earth to intercede for us. If we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, His Spirit dwells within us.
