Learning Disabilities Policy
Objective: Liberty Classical Academy is committed to ensuring that it is equipped to provide excellence in education to all of the enrolled students.
Scope: All students applying for admission to LCA as well as those already admitted to LCA
Definitions: Learning disabilities are divided into two sections:
Moderate to Severe Learning Disability: Any condition requiring a separate classroom, program, and/or staff in order to provide the educational services (i.e. Down’s syndrome, deaf/mute, blind).
Mild Learning Disability: Any condition that does not require a separate classroom, program, and/or staff in order to provide the education services (i.e. hyperactivity, attention deficit syndrome, dyslexia).
GUIDELINES
Children with a severe learning disability will not be admitted to LCA due to the lack of adequate staff, funding, and facilities.
Children who have been diagnosed as having a mild learning disability are required to meet the same admission requirements, academic standards (see Academic Probation Policy), and discipline requirements (see Discipline Policy) as all other students in their grade level.
If a student requires help from the learning specialist(s) on staff, they may be invited to make recommendations on the following:
A. Accommodations that can or cannot be implemented at Liberty
B. Long-term success of the student at Liberty
C. Further assessment testing (inside or outside of Liberty)
D. Continued enrollment
E. Dismissal based upon the individual needs of the student either at quarter, semester, or year-end
