Liberty Classical Academy was recently blessed to have alumnus Andrew Grill share about his life and activity since his 2014 graduation.
Please share your activities post-graduation from Liberty Classical Academy.
After graduating from Liberty Classical in 2014, I went to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska to study at the Heider College of Business. I decided to take on a double major in finance and marketing and am currently a senior at Creighton. My internship experiences have involved working at Etail Solutions, Union Pacific Railroad, TD Ameritrade and Mutual of Omaha.
Do you feel Liberty Classical prepared you well for college/post-secondary education/work-force?
I would say that Liberty Classical Academy did a great job in preparing me for college. The challenging coursework at Liberty Classical helped develop my work ethic from an early age. I also found that the senior thesis helped me to become more confident in my public speaking skills. These public speaking skills have opened doors for me from both a campus leadership and professional networking standpoint.
Name one invaluable thing you received from Liberty Classical Academy.
Liberty Classical taught me how to write! This skill is so important for college students who want to conduct themselves in a professional manner. My college essays have been a breeze in comparison to the papers I wrote from Mrs. Struck. I guess I can thank her for that!
Provide an example or a scenario where you can directly tie the value of learning from Liberty Classical Academy.
I’ve been able to outperform my peers when it comes to statistics. I had the opportunity to take AP statistics at Liberty Classical and I am very glad that I did, even though I did not enjoy it at the time. In my college freshman and sophomore math courses, I understood concepts that most of my peers had never learned about. The statistics experience also built a solid foundation for the various finance and economics courses that I have taken.
What are your future plans and goals?
Upon graduation this May, I will be working for Goldman Sachs, a leading global investment bank and investment management firm. I will be working in the Investment Management department out of the Salt Lake City, Utah office. I am also pursuing the CFA charter (Chartered Financial Analyst®) and will be taking the level one exam this June.
Any good advice for current Liberty Classical Academy students?
Don’t be afraid to consider a university that is out of your comfort zone. Shoot for the stars and apply to those schools that may be difficult to get accepted into. God has a plan for you and you never know where He will take you. My decision to go to Creighton has brought so many great people and experiences into my life. I never would have imagined that I would be moving to Salt Lake City, Utah to work for one of the world’s largest investment banks in just a few short months. Keep working hard and it will pay off in the near future!
